30 minute trip
Departing from our base we fly south over the world famous Blarney Castle, one of Irelands most historic castles famous for its ‘stone of eloquence’.
Fly over Cork City following the meandering path of the River Lee where we see such famous landmarks as St. Finbarrs Cathedral, University College Cork, The City Gaol, Shandon Steeple, The Lough, City Hall and Corks Home of Gaelic Games – Pairc Ui Chaoimh.
As we pass Blackrock Castle the harbour widens and we begin our tour of Europe's most spectacular harbour and head for a town full of poignant memories for Irish emigrants – Cobh.
It was from Cobh hundreds of thousands of hungry & penniless Irish men, women and children left for America in the famine years of 1844-1848. Look out for the statue of Annie Moore and her two brothers. Annie Moore became the fist ever emigrant to be processed in Ellis Island on January 1st 1892. The town of Cobh was the last port of call for The Titanic on her fateful maiden voyage. The town is crowned by the very fine St Colemans Cathedral before we head back to base for a truly memorable experience. |
